ATTACKS ON THE ECONOMY
Immediately after taking office, Trump empowered unelected Elon Musk to senselessly fire tens of thousands of federal employees – including 29,000 public servants who are expected to lose their jobs right here in Maryland.
Not only were these layoffs heartless, they also created a new $280 million budget gap in Maryland's finances – forcing changes to the state budget.
Now, Trump’s reckless tariffs are continuing to push costs onto Maryland consumers. As of April 15, the average Maryland household is now expected to pay $4,900 more per year due to these tariffs.

ATTACKS ON EDUCATION
President Trump's executive order threatening to dismantle the Department of Education has put nearly $2 billion in federal funding that Maryland’s public schools rely on at risk. The impacts of his reckless order would predominantly impact low-income and special needs students.
Trump’s administration also ended over $600 million in teacher-training and diversity -focused grants, further impacting underserved students.
ATTACKS ON THE ENVIRONMENT
Over the past few months, the Trump administration has rolled back dozens of environmental protections that will increase air pollution in our state. This includes weakening the Clean Power Plan and loosening regulations on coal-powered plants in the U.S.
Trump’s cuts to the EPA could be “catastrophic” to the Chesapeake Bay, drastically threatening the health and recovery of one of our state’s most vital natural resources. During his first term in office, Trump repeatedly tried to cut funding for the Chesapeake Bay Program by over 90%. Recently, the federal administration vowed to roll back limits on pollution which would be consequential for the bay, jeopardizing years of our progress on its cleanup.

ATTACKS ON HEALTH CARE
Trump has proposed cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act that could jeopardize coverage for nearly 160,000 Maryland residents. The administration has also fired hundreds of experts at federal health agencies based in our state – like the National Institute of Health and Centers for Disease Control, who have been on the frontlines of curing diseases and saving lives.
